Scott Watkins: Blog

China, next year, etc.

Posted on March 29, 2012
CHINA: I am SO looking forward to returning to beautiful China! I'll be there May 28 - June 22 (dates approximate) teaching and performing. Can't wait to see my new friends again - and to tasting delicious food (especially Lanzhou noodles!).

NEXT YEAR: Next concert season is shaping up to be a great one! To begin, I'll join my extraordinary JU colleagues in a showcase concert September 7. Later in the fall (date TBA) I get to perform the Mendelssohn Trio in C minor with Marguerite Richardson and Shannon Lockwood, and the Schumann Piano Quintet with guest artist, violinist, Reed Smith from Marshall University. February 8 I'm collaborating with colleagues Richardson and Lockwood, JU alum, violist Peter Dutilly, and clarinetist Artie Clifton and French Hornist Sean Morgan in an all-Brahms concert (Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano; Trio for French Horn, Violin, and Piano; Quartet in C minor for Violin, Viola, Cello, and Piano). February 28 my piano studio welcomes a marching band (JU's newest music ensemble!) to campus in a concert of marches (what else?!?) for soloists and piano ensembles, featuring a grand finale for six pianos of the Jacksonville University Fight Song! April 13 is my annual faculty solo recital (Bach: Three Toccatas - C minor, E minor, D major; Bach: Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue; Brahms: Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Op. 5). As a composer I'm collaborating with director and theater professor Deborah Jordan in a "radio play" ... Orsen Welles' adaptation of "DRACULA" inspired by the Mercury Theater On the Air's 1939 radio production (check out my composer web-site for details: www.scottwatkinscomposer.com).

Next year is going to be the BEST yet!
